The aim of this drill is to improve low point, thus creating a better strike of the golf ball. Using a towel, you have a visual aid that you need to avoid in order to make contact with the ball. This should help create a better angle of attack and overall, better shots.
Step 1:
Place a towel three fingers behind the ball (for a right-handed players, closer to your right foot).
Step 2:
Rehearse the movement. During your downswing, transfer your weight to your front foot while keeping your head steady. This ensures you hit the ground after the ball—an essential skill for solid irons and woods.
Step 3:
Before hitting the ball, take three or four slow practice swings to feel the movement. Don’t rush—focus on understanding the motion before worrying about results.
Step 4:
Hit the ball at 60% speed, finishing on your front foot. Hold your finish with balance until the ball stops. This builds patience, balance, and consistency—all key to becoming a better golfer.
