Striking the centre of the clubface cleanly is essential for every club—including the putter. An off-centre strike can significantly affect the start line, often resulting in a missed putt.

PGA Professional Jack Roberts shares a simple drill to improve your putting strike—all you need is an elastic band.

  1. Wrap two elastic bands around the putter head, leaving a gap about half a ball’s width in the centre. This gap marks your sweet spot for solid contact.
  2. Set up a few golf balls around six feet from the hole.
  3. Practise putting as usual, focusing on striking the centre of the clubface. If you hit the elastic band, you’ll notice a difference in the roll and feel of the putt.

Incorporate this drill into your routine to improve consistency and hopefully hole more putts!
