You’re probably aware of the swing adopted in the film, Happy Gilmore, when Adam Sandler’s lead character takes a running swipe at the ball.
It’s not really a technique you’ll find in many official coaching manuals, but PGA Professional Chris Ryan embraces elements of it to help improve your ball-striking.
Drawing on his own experiences in his early years when he would hit the ball too high while struggling to maximise distance, Chris’s tutorial looks at the movements in the swing that are required to improve in these areas.
Ideally, you need to create a movement where there is a force going forward and down before you brace against that force and that in turn kicks the clubhead out and generates more speed. In effect, it’s what the Happy Gilmore swing does.
The results with your irons could leave you, well, a happy golfer.
